Lead with Love

I've come to recognize that if you have an issue with someone based on their personality, gender, race, religion, or sexual preference, the issue lies not with them but with you. That is something you would have to change about yourself. You weren't born with these judgements against others, it was a learned trait. So if it can be learned, you can also teach yourself to be better. Someone being who they are shouldn't offend you. It's a learning process to make the choice to Love instead. To show compassion & attempt understanding. It is not always easy and much easier said than done, but I believe you should always keep trying to soften your heart and Love as Jesus did. After all, no good ever comes from a place of hate or a hardened heart. If you want to make a difference in the world you must always lead with Love. 

Answer God's Call

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of Power, Love, and Self-discipline." - 2 Timothy 1:7 

This verse says to me: 

When your heart tugs at you to speak up against something. You DO it, with Power, with Love, and with Self-discipline. You aren't hesitant, you're Confident. You don't worry about who agrees or disagrees. You aren't called to Act by other human beings. You're being called by God. 

Answer. 

Weightless

Trouble sleeping is an understatement

My mind hits the ground as my feet do the pavement 

Quick & sudden

Running as if there were something 

they needed to catch up to 

Or get away from 

Undone am I 

my thoughts disheveled 

And as they unravel 

I too come loose at the seams

Lost in the sea of my own dreams

And did I mention I cant swim?

It's dim here....

Not very much light gets in

So it's hard to see

Increasingly harder to breathe 

The air is thin 

I begin to feel weightless....

SPEAK THE TRUTH

Say what you want.

Say what you feel.

Say what needs to be said even if no one agrees with you.

As long as it agrees with your own personal convictions and what you say is not meant for the intentional harm of another's feelings then by all means....SAY IT! 

The truth isn't always pretty. 

And lies are often most appealing to the ears. 

Being Mixed

Being mixed 

it was hard to come to grips 

with racism and to admit 

that it still exists 

was even harder yet...

My heart is pained

My soul is stained by this knowledge 

I know some of you cant understand

But it's like a blood war is going on inside my veins 

For I come from Slaves 

as well as Slave Owners....

I was made with the blood of two Races 

that have Hated one another for hundreds of years 

And it's become clear

in the past few days,

that it is still very much the case 

In far too many places for comfort

And I wonder.....

Will it ever cease to exist? 

I can only hope.... 

My Black Skin

This skin Im in, it plagues me

in stereotype it pegs me, as...

One who is up to no good

One who must be from the hood

and talk in slang 

One who must be a member of a gang

Uneducated of course

A troublemaker of sorts

But what I am is Kind

To my Color, I am blind 

But to many others I am a crime

waiting to be committed

A suspect without reason "She did it."

Deemed a threat to society

Improperly judged

When will enough be enough?

How many of Us 

have to die before trust is restored?

Before they see me as more 

than My Black Skin, 

and see me instead as simply human?

How someone could look into the eyes of beautiful angels on earth (baby seals) and beat them over the head with a bat for it's fur is BEYOND me..... If the roles were reversed I cant help but think that the seal would show compassion to the human being. When an animal looks in our eyes, it is without judgement, they don't care how intelligent we are, what language we speak. They see us simply as another being. I can understand the animal kingdom, it has order to it, the circle of life; but with humans there is only 'doing' with the intent to profit. No order, just chaos fueled by greed. I just cant understand or fathom how some people have fallen so far from the graces of compassion that they could do such a thing to any living being without a hint of remorse. It is beyond me. I pray one day cruelty to such an unfathomable degree will no longer exist. Thats a grand hope, I know, but I have to believe its possible. For my hearts' sake.

The Three Keys

Smile until your cheeks hurt.

Laugh until you cry.

Love with a love so great 

that it shakes you to your very core. 

And then sigh....

a breath of relief 

For when you Live these three things......

You'll have finally found Peace.
